Dimex tailors workwear for Yara to meet the demands of challenging working conditions
Yara, a company operating in the chemical industry, relies on Dimex’s durable workwear, customized to meet its specific needs.
The demanding conditions of the chemical industry
Norwegian company Yara is one of the world’s leading fertilizer producers. The company employs approximately 16,000 people, around 400 of whom work at its Siilinjärvi plant in Finland.
“At our Siilinjärvi site, we have a wide range of chemical industry operations and demanding working conditions. Workwear must provide excellent protection and a good fit,” explains Ari Bäckman, Safety Specialist at Yara.
Tero Udd, a Process Operator, knows these conditions firsthand. His responsibilities include monitoring operations and conducting field inspections.
“Our workwear is put to the test in some really challenging conditions. We’re exposed to chemicals, dust, freezing temperatures and heat,” Udd explains.
Workwear customized to meet Yara’s needs
Yara employees wear Dimex’s multi-protective bib overalls and jackets, as well as standard work trousers and winter workwear. Some of the garments have been customized to suit Yara’s specific work tasks.
“The workwear supplied to us has been tailored to our needs. Additional pockets and attachments have been added, for example, to carry tools,” Bäckman explains.
Customer needs are taken into account in production planning
Close collaboration is at the heart of the customization process. Yara communicates what is needed from the workwear, and Dimex incorporates these wishes into the product design process.
“We maintain an active dialogue about our needs and the features we would like to see in our workwear. Dimex is always very receptive to our wishes and happy to take them into account in production planning,” says Bäckman.
Employees value durability, comfort and Finnish quality.
In her role as a Warehouse and Logistics Operator, Niina Laitinen needs workwear that performs well in a variety of situations.
“My job involves a lot of movement and working in different positions. It’s important that the clothes are comfortable, fit well and allow freedom of movement,” Laitinen says.
For Tero Udd, the key qualities of good workwear are versatility, breathability and comfort.
“Dimex workwear is really the best fit for our tasks because it’s so durable.”
In addition to positive feedback from employees, Yara values its workwear supplier’s ability to collaborate, reliable deliveries and Finnish roots.
“We really appreciate the high level of Finnish involvement in Dimex’s products and operations,” Bäckman notes.
What does perseverance mean at Yara?
“We get everything done.”
