“Do you know, Tuire, why we celebrate Christmas?” my mother asked, wearing her 80s-era short, bright red hairdo. She leaned down to gently grab my shoulder: “This is the celebration of Jesus’ birth.”
I looked at my mother, fed up, "Why do you have to bring Jesus into everything?"
No matter how fast the pace is and whatever the direction, Christmas is all about disconnecting from reality for a moment. You can go with the elves with permission. A downhill run in the Savoy terrain (lots of rocks and elevation changes) reminds you that a little fear of death on Christmas Eve can make your cheeks turn red. I also recommend sledding surfing, making snow angels while taking a sauna, and trying to wash snow with overwhelming resistance. A few years ago, beach volleyball was played. Although, it was so much fun that you had to wear sneakers. No matter what the weather, you can have fun and frolic on Christmas.
On the eve I feel good despite what the ECB is doing. I will now, arbitrarily, give you permission to relate. You can eat excessively, be as commercial with Christmas presents as you feel like, you can take more naps and stare at the candle flame without anyone doubting your sanity. Above all, you can just be happy that another year is coming to an end and a new one is already looming ahead.
Thank you for this exciting year, we'll get back to it after the holidays.
